The First Day of the Rest of Her Life

Mission: Falling Star
Location: USS Ragnarok
Timeline: MD 1 || 1030 hours

Shayna didn't have that much in regard to personal belongings. She had moved around since leaving home and found that it was much easier to pack with fewer...things. Most of those, right now, were in a shipping container that was being sent to the cargo transporter. She had a small satchel with a few items in it, including a PADD with the latest Starfleet Medical Jounal. Shayna had to keep up on the latest things happening in the world of Medical if she wanted to progress. For now, though, she was focused on the one that had been given to her prior to arrival at Utopia Planitia Fleetyard's station.

“The USS Ragnarok,” she said to herself. “Interesting name for a starship. Battle royale every other mission, lots of wounded...a great place to start off my career right out of Residency.” She smiled and shook her head. The tall Colombian woman checked the time and saw that she still had some room to spare. Putting her orders back into the satchel, the brunette headed towards the shops. There were some ingredients that she was hoping to find before she transported aboard.

Though, anyone who's been around Shayna Rosario for any length of time knows the woman doesn't cook. At all. But there was one thing that she liked to make, Chocolate Santafereño, a Colombian-style hot chocolate. This was a staple in almost every Colombian home. Shayna grew up with it at breakfast with homemade arepa and cheese. And on special occasions, they would get it as an evening snack with Colombian pastries or bread and cheese.

One of the things that she had carefully packed in the shipping container was a mug that her abuelita had given to her before she left home to start Pre-Med at the Academy. And it was in that mug she liked to make the hot chocolate. She had also given her a well-used chocolatera and a bolinillo, or molinillo.

Finding the right place that sold the ingredients was easy. Getting them at a decent price, that was another story. But Shayna had a few tricks up her sleeve that she wasn't afraid to use. After fifteen minutes or so, she exited the shop with a five pound bag of sugar, eighteen ounces of ground cinnamon, and ten, five ounce packages of sweet chocolate for chopping. The only thing she would need to replicate would be the whole milk. Unless she could figure out a deal with the chef for some fresh to keep in her quarters. But then she would a refrigeration unit. Come to think of it, the replicator would probably a lot easier.

With everything in hand, Lieutenant Rosario headed towards the nearest transporter room and requested to be sent up to the Ragnarok.

“Just a moment,” the young Bolian behind the console said, “let me confirm it.” He quickly sent a message to the ship with her name and rank and a confirmation of orders. Moments later, his console beeped as he nodded his head. “Well Lieutenant, you're about to meet your new home. Enjoy.” He smiled up at the brunette woman as she stepped up to the transporter pad.

Shayna turned around and nodded. "Thank you, Ensign," she replied in her Colombian accent. "I will. At your leisure."

The Bolian Ensign smiled, "Energizing."

Shayna watched as everything disappeared in a haze of blue shimmering light. When she could see once again, it was a transporter room on the Sovereign class ship.

"Welcome to the Ragnarok," said the transporter operator. "We'll have any containers sent to your quarters as soon as you find out from Ops where they are. Sound good?"

"It sounds good," she said. With her satchel across her back, she stepped off the pad and left the room...ready for the first day of the rest of her life.
