Curiosity about holo-usage

Mission: An Orion to Die For
Location: Bridge
Timeline: MD 3 || 1030 hours

ON:

It was mid morning and the Chief Engineer sat at the Engineering Console on the bridge. Morning reports were coming in and Lt. Kramer began to skim through them quickly, picking up on the highlights. He would typically go back later and read them more thoroughly, but after he had checked the entire list of reports.

When Kramer reviewed the report from the Chief of Operations, which seemed all fine on the surface, but a couple notes made him curious. He couldn't put his finger on it. So, he changed his normal routine, Vincent read the report through. In the end, nothing unusual, but there was something that was making him curious, and not sure why.

Vincent then did a search on all related topics that Chief Barnes had been reporting on in precious days and all searches. One minor thing stood out to Vincent. There was a couple small notations about holographic character usage, but outside of the holodeck.

Kramer did a quick check of status on all holo-decks and -suites. Everything there seemed to be as expected. There had been no reports of problems nor irregularities. The Engineer then did a check on holo-emitters in the medical facilities. EMHs for the Triumphant had been upgraded and additional holo-emitters had been installed in several more places than on precious vessels. All this Kramer approved of as well. Yet, no real issue nor irregularities.

Vincent sat back in his chair and thought about the situation. Barnes had every right to look into this subject. It was definitely in his purview. So, why am I so curious about Barnes and a holodeck character? He asked himself.

Vince thought back about a story he had read recently, which took place on another vessel in Bravo Fleet, where their Chief Engineer installed a holo emitter in the ship's forward lounge. He exclaimed to himself, Now that 'is' an unusual place for a holo-emitter to be installed ! Vincent then recalled, it had been on the USS Hope.

As Vincent recalled it was a last of the minute addition, at the Captain's request, before shipping out and that Chief had grabbed an old KS225 series emitter from some junk 'rehab' stack. This was the type that was used for the EMH Mark 1 program, that had been in wide spread use at the time.

As Kramer recalled they didn't use the emitter for a medical purpose, but as a bar tender. And even crazier than that, they did not reprogram the emitter with a different program more suited for that venue, but left the EMH as it was. Kramer recollected that the program was allowed over time to revise its own program to be more suited to care for the crew members that came into the lounge. Something about focusing his attention on the crew's nutritional health and also their mental health.

Kramer looked back over this morning's report from Barnes and there was no specific mention of an EMH nor any projects in work with a holo-emitter. Vincent felt that this definitely called for a personal contact with Senior Chief Barnes and ask about his plans in this area. Just out of curiousity, of course.
