[ Shortly After "Checking in with the Commodore" ]

Lieutenant Zekori Dosan tapped his commbadge after stepping out of the Commodore's Ready Room, "Computer, locate Master Chief Petty Officer Barnes, Thomas."

Following a buzz and a whir, the computer replied with, "Master Chief Barnes is currently in his office in Main Engineering."

Lieutenant Zekori headed towards the Turbolift. He had amicable timing as crew had arrived to the bridge. He shifted aside awaiting for them to unload. He stepped into the Turbolift, "Main Engineering."

The Chief Operations Officer reached his destination. He stepped onto the Main Engineering Deck. He checked his surroundings and found the Chief Engineer's Office. He tapped on the call button awaiting his colleague's permission to enter.

Almost instantly, the door opened, having been triggered by the occupant inside. As the door slid aside, Master Chief Barnes was revealed, standing over a table. A holographic schematic of the Triumphant was displayed over the table, highlighting the ship's warp drive. "Come on in," he told the new arrival.

The Lieutenant entered the room, "Good morning, Master Chief Barnes. I am Lieutenant Zekori, the new Chief Operations Officer." He walked towards him.

Tom smiled as he looked up to see the Lieutenant approaching him. "Oh, wonderful. I was starting to wonder when the new Chief would be assigned. What can I do for you?"

"The Commodore recommended that I stop by and check in with you as he informed you were the former Ops Chief. So just want to see how Ops and Engineering are doing. I'm a strong believer in interdepartmental cooperation between our departments."

"It's certainly nice to meet like minded individuals," Tom stated, gesturing for the Bajoran to sit. Tom, in turn, found his way to his chair on the other side of the cluttered desk. "Our last Chief Engineer liked to keep to herself, and that made my job as Ops Chief a bit difficult. Ever since the Commodore reassigned me, I've been picking up the pieces she left behind, in addition to supervising a notable refit. To answer your question though... I think Ops and Engineering are doing well considering the circumstances. It's been fun having a bit of pull with both departments, but I can certainly say I'm glad to see you. I can rest assured knowing that instead of coordinating with all of Ops' many sub-departments in lieu of a Chief, I can just coordinate with you."

"Thank you," Dosan moved over to the desk and sat in one of the chairs across from him. "It just streamlines things coordinate through each other on the bridge or if you are down in main engineering we'll be in constant contact with each other."

"Agreed." Tom nodded to the Bajoran. "There's no such thing as individual success on this ship; everything's a team effort. That said, is there anything in particular with I can help you with at the moment?"

"Could you debrief me on the refit and the status of both of our departments?"

Tom took in a deep breath and exhaled. "The refit is... or was... really just focused around one project; installing Regenerative Ablative Armor generators. All Odyssey-class ships come standard with a tri-core matter/antimatter reactor assembly. One core is dedicated to the warp drive and primary power, the second to the transwarp and quantum drive, and third has mainly been a reserve system. The entire ship's power grid had to be overhauled in order for the third core to become the power supply for the armor generators, and several of the phaser banks."

"Pretty extensive retrofit," Zekori's eyes brightened up with the amount of technology on the behemoth that the Odyssey-class is. His previous assignments in Starfleet before coming aboard the Triumphant were toy dog equivalent to the Great Dane. "Any upgrades to the computer systems onboard?"

"Not in the last year." Tom tapped a button to call up a schematic of the ship's bioneural network. "Our system is still relatively state-of-the-art, but there might be a couple software patches to apply. Last I heard, I think we're scheduled for regular maintenance next year."

"It helps that were are the ship of the line-type starship so we are somewhat set ahead in technology capabilities from the rest of the fleet."

Tom nodded and cleared the schematic. "Very much so. You can always expect to stay busy aboard a ship like this. Much of your staff have been on board the ship for the last year or so, so they'll be very helpful to you in getting you acclimated to the ship."

"Of course, I plan on calling a staff meeting in the next day or two to become more acquainted with staff and familiarize myself with any Triumphant-specific systems onboard." Dosan smiled, "Is there anything else you would like to go over, Master Chief Barnes?"

The Chief Engineer shook his head. "No, I don't think there's anything pressing at the moment. Go ahead and check in with the department, and why don't we go ahead and establish a daily meeting just to make sure our objectives stay parallel and not skewed?"

"Of course. Looking forward to working with you, Master Chief." Zekori stood up from the chair waiting for his colleague to follow through. He reached his hand across the table to shake his hand.

Tom followed suit immediately, rising and reaching out to accept the Lieutenant's hand. "As I am, Lieutenant. Never hesitate to reach out. I'm here to help."

Zekori nodded his head with a smile and exit the Chief Engineer's Office and Main Engineering.
