Mission:
The Nanjing
Location: Promenade
Timeline: MD1; 12:00
Martha and Lucia had agreed to meet up for lunch that lunchtime after the latter said she had something important to tell her wife. As per usual Martha was the first one to arrive - with the Italian security officer arriving around five minutes or so later. Lucia sat down at their reserved table with an extremely excited look on her face - a look which Martha now knew all too well after being married to Lucia for over four years.
"Oh it's that look again. What's happened now?" Martha asked.
Lucia could hardly contain her excitement after the communication she'd had during her shift this morning. The security officer had also brought a PADD with her - but that was for after Lucia told Martha why she was as excited as she looked. Before speaking Lucia gently placed the PADD on the table and placed each of her hands on the table's edge.
"You'll never guess who I spoke to earlier" Lucia replied.
Martha shrugged. "I have absolutely no idea Lucia. The President of the United Federation of Planets? The Grand Nagus of the Ferengi Alliance?"
"No Martha...I've spoken to the adoption agency. We've finally been cleared to adopt - in fact they've asked us if we'd like to adopt newborn twins" Lucia replied.
Lucia handed the PADD to Martha which had a picture of the twins that she and her wife had been asked if they would like to adopt. She was extremely eager to hear what Martha's response would be.
Martha accepted the PADD and looked at the picture which was on it. The adoption process had been a very long and difficult one for herself and Lucia - and now they had very nearly completed the process it felt like a massive weight had been lifted from the Chief Tactical Officer's shoulders.
"They're perfect" Martha said.
Lucia replied. "They really are - they're both girls too. They're only a few days old...oh Martha this is so amazing. I really wanted to say yes to them when they asked me earlier - but obviously I wanted to speak to you first"
Martha gave her wife a rare smile.
"We'll have our lunch then give them a call back to say yes" Martha replied.
Lucia continued. "Oh but we haven't decided on any names yet Martha. We need to pick some middle names for them too"
"Well we'll go over the list over the next few days or so and see what first names we like the most - then see if there's any out of the ones left which would be good middle names. Once the mission's over we need to ask for some leave so we can finalise the adoption" Martha responded.
Lucia nodded. "Oh we've got so many though Martha - how are we going to decide on just two first names and two middle names?"
"Lucia....we'll manage to pick some names...I know there's loads but there'll be some that'll stand out once we go over them again. Anyway let's get some food so we've got plenty of time to call them back and confirm we'd like to go ahead - I don't know about you but I'm absolutely starving" Martha said.
Lucia was so excited and so happy that Martha was happy to proceed with adopting the twins. They had considered having their own baby but ultimately decided on adopting instead - and now they were almost there she was the happiest she'd ever been in her life.
"Martha...you had a huge plate - sorry - a mountain of pancakes for breakfast just over four hours ago. How do you manage to eat so much food?" Lucia commented.
Martha shrugged. "That was ages ago Lucia. Hmm...I think I'll have some chicken today"
Lucia grinned and then turned the menu to face Martha before pointing out to her wife what she'd decided she was going to have. The Italian knew what Martha was like when it came to food - and the fact she always seemed to have room for seconds or dessert too.
"I'm going to have this I think" Lucia said.
Martha nodded. "Alright so I'll be getting a hunter's chicken for me and a tuna pasta bake for you. What are you going to have to drink?"
"I'll have an orange juice please" Lucia replied.
Martha nodded. "I think I'll have one of those as well actually. Right...I won't be long"
Martha then got up from the table and headed inside to order their lunch and drinks. The dangerous mission ahead of the Triumphant was playing on her mind a lot - but she knew once they came out on the other side there was so much to look forward to for the Cusack family.
