A Command Adjustment
Posted on Sat Aug 10, 2019 @ 10:41pm by Lieutenant Colonel S'er'in'e & 2nd Lieutenant Gage Aravan
Mission:
Refits and Reviews
Location: MCO's Office
Timeline: MD5 ll 0830Hrs
S'er'in'e sat in his office clearing the last of Kasia's things. He wanted Lt Aravan to assume the role on a clean slate even if it were only temporary. It seemed he had more on his mind since Kasia had begun the treatments, while hopeful they would help he was also sure to be helpful but not smotheringly so. He looked at the chair that his Wife had sat in when she told him she wanted a child, the words echoed through his mind clearly, crisply and the realisation that he would soon be a father. He had little doubt that the next few months would be a challenge for both, Kasia was right in one thing however, he had to get her pregnant.
Intimacy however was one thing, the act though was something else and one which he was new to. In the one hand he didn't want to pressure or push Kasia but in the other making no effort at all ran the risk of her feeling he was not committed to this course. He was committed but much of this rested on Kasia for she had to take the treatments, she had to endure the side effects and she had to let him know in some way when she was ready.
When the last task of Kasia's was cleared, all that left now was her temporary replacement. Even if it were temporary is would still be some time till she returned to duty. He could only hope this course they took would not cost her the career she so hard worked for.
=^= Lieutenant Aravan, could you report to my office?" =^= S'er'in'e was so engrossed in the moment he'd not checked on what the Lieutenant was doing at this moment thus unaware if he was interrupting anything.
=^=On my way, Colonel=^= came the response and not a minute later, the chime to his door announced a visitor.
"Come." S'er'in'e spoke knowing whom it would be, by now he was standing by the window overlooking the main floor area. "Lieutenant, please." S'er'ine offered to join him at the window. "I wanted to talk to you about a change in the command authority." S'er'in'e wanted to get straight to it, there was little point in dallying.
"Major S'er'in'e has elected to take some leave of her role, personal reasons. Having consulted Captain Weisz on the matter she agrees with me that you would be the best to step into the Major's duties until her return." He let that sink in for a moment, a moment of thought for the Lieutenant.
"Your thoughts?" The Caitian asked.
Gage joined him by the window and listened to what his commanding officer had to say. "It's a big step, Sir, and I have no doubt that they'll follow my lead, but what all would I have to do aside from standard operations?"
"Before you would work closely with the Major, now you work closely with me. You should appoint someone to fill in for you while you assume the role as Exec." S'er'in'e preempted. "As for duties, you will ensure that training certifications are up to date and not due to lapse soon. You will handle disciplinary matters that arise. Squad assignments will also be left to you or adjusted by you depending on information I provide to you."
S'er'in'e paused. "I would ask that you silence any rumours about this change and about what happened to the Major. She is well, she has opted to take some long term leave for personal reasons." Knowing that some would look at him and what he was and wonder if he'd harmed her, even by accident. "You will be in charge of remedial actions against under performing marines. Promotion recommendations and award suggestions will also fall under you."
"It doesn't sound too complicated," Gage said and hesitated for a moment. "Do you think there's anyone else more qualified that you may have overlooked? I don't want people thinking it's because the ship CO is my older brother."
"You are a marine Lieutenant, your affiliation with the Commodore is not my concern. What is my concern is having who I feel is best, in the right place, at the right time and that person is you and Captain Wiesz agrees with me. Unless you disagree?" S'er'in'e replied watching two marines sparring in various grapples and holds.
"No, Sir," Gage said quickly. "And I'll do my best to live up to your expectations, Colonel. Do you have any orders for me?"
"I have cleared the Major's outstanding issues myself. Routine reports which I will make available to you. I would suggest you report to the Exec's office and get yourself familiar with the new access you have available. The Major had her perspective and now I want yours. Look over the marine squad assignments and training, recommend any potential changes and training suggestions you have." While S'er'in'e didn't know what the future held, it never hurt to be prepared.
"I'll put together a list and have it to you soonest, Sir," Gage said. "If you need anything, I'll be there immediately."
"Make the most of this Lieutenant." S'er'in'e turned to look at the shorter Human male. "This is a prime chance to show what you have to offer in a command level department role. It will serve you well for the promotion board." S'er'in'e added, agreeing to himself that he wouldn't mind seeing the Lieutenant made Captain if all goes well. "Dismissed."
"Understood, Sir," Gage said. He had a lot to think about and a short time to get those thoughts in order, but he was a Marine used to combat and this was just another plan to come up with. With a nod of thanks at the giant Caitian, he turned and left.
The balls, as Humans would say, was not in the Lieutenants court. What he did with it would be seen but S'er'in'e had high hopes as he watched the man leave.
