Can you fix it?

Posted on Thu Jul 25, 2019 @ 5:03pm by Lieutenant Commander Alex Rho & Lieutenant JG Leonardo Francesco MD

Mission: Refits and Reviews
Location: Holodeck and Sickbay
Timeline: MD 5 || 1500 hours

Alex liked his combat scenarios in the holodeck. They were more difficult because he had to rely on skills and not his Ullian abilities. And as of late, he'd taken to lowering the safety protocols. Not disabling them, mind you. Just lowering them. This particular scenario would be the one that would be the most challenging. Alex was facing off against a small group of Tal Shiar operatives in a remote part of the galaxy. He had make his infiltration and exfil of the complex and taken what he needed. But due to his increase of the difficulty level, Alex had two of those operatives on his tail. He started to duck behind a fallen wall in order to take up a defensive position. But not before a low-powered Romulan disruptor blast hit him in the scapula. Alex fell and screamed in pain.

"Computer, freeze program!" The action ceased and Alex crawled to his feet. "Well hell, this is going to be a fun one to explain. Especially while getting down the corridor." He called up the door, saved the program, and headed out to Sickbay as best as he could.

Leo was sat in his office updating medical records from treatments he'd conducted and checking up on a medical experiment as well. So far things were pretty much routine yet busy which he enjoyed, it passed the time and kept his mind active. Because he was still somewhat new on board he set the computer to display basic information on the newly arrived to help him get to know people. When the doors opened and someone walked in the PaDD flashed to life with the information on one Lieutenant Alex Rho.

Standing up and walking our Leo could see the Lieutenant was in some discomfort. "Lieutenant, Dr Leonardo Francesco. Right this way." Leo would lead him to a vacant bed, where he'd begin his medical assessment.

Alex had remained quiet for the initial part of his entrance into Sickbay. Until the doctor spoke, that is. "Lieutenant Alex Rho," he replied amidst groans. The Intel Chief sat down on the indicated bed and looked at the doctor. "Under normal circumstances, I might say that it's a pleasure, Doctor Francesco. But most people don't come to Sickbay for normal circumstances. So here's one for your medical journal. It's a low intensity disruptor blast. On a docked starship, nonetheless. And it's a little more painful than I anticipated."

Leo grabbed a scanner and reviewed the wound. "A superficial dermal partial thickness burn." He spoke as he continued his scan. "No nerve damage, muscular tissues are intact. How did you manage this?" Docked ship indeed and he'd not gotten any reports of intruders. It would be one for the books indeed, but that would be one for later.

"That's all good news then. The lack of damage, I mean," replied Alex. "As for how it happened, I was on the holodeck in a hand-to-hand combat simulation. Holograms are more difficult to battle and I have to rely on external indicators rather than my natural abilities. So I've recently taken to lowering the safety protocols slightly. It increases the difficulty level and forces me to stay on my toes. With that said, this happened from a Romulan disruptor blast, low yield."

Leo paused a moment when he heard that the safeties had been lowered, something he was not fond of. Risks were taken, accidents happened and injuries followed. "Well, I suggest not tinkering with the safeties. They are there for a reason and if keeping you on your toes is important make sure you keep them." Leo cleaned the wound, treated and repaired the damage.

Once done he put everything back on the small table. "There, all done." Giving the wound a once more over. "You will be sore for a little while, but leave the safety settings alone, they are there for a reason. Next time I might not be able to fix what happens."

Alex nodded. "Only lowered, not removed. And such as it wouldn't cause severe injury or death. However, I'll not tinker with the safety settings in that holodeck again." He moved his arm around bit and could feel the soreness. "Despite the soreness, that was an amazing job, Doctor." He paused for a second and lowered his arm before looking at the Doctor. Such skill and expertise might come in handy on certain types of away missions. Plus the whole grace under fire thing. "When was the last time you had any combat medical training in an infiltration and extraction scenario, Doctor?"

"I'm a Doctor Lieutenant, not an operative. Sickbay is my battleground, the injuries are my foes, lives my comrades." Leo replied. "Besides, I'm happy where I am, doing what I do. I leave the rest of the fun things to other colours." Leo answered suggesting the other uniform colours, with a smile as he put things into a container to be sterilised.

"I can respect that," said Alex. "But have you ever been on an away mission where you've had to face your foes in the middle of an attack?"

"If I wanted to do that Lieutenant I'd have joined the Marines as a combat medic." Leo replied. "To answer the question, no. I have not." Leo was content to keep it that way, he was a Doctor, an avid one, a good one. If he wanted something more akin to what the Lieutenant was mentioning he'd have joined the marines.

"Fair enough," Alex said as he slid off the bio-bed. "Just don't be too upset if you ever wind up on an away team. Even Crusher had her fair share of away missions. At any rate, amazing job on the wound." In typical human fashion, he put his hand out to shake the Doctor's. "I'm glad you're on our side."

"A pleasure." Leo reached forward to shake the offered hand. "Remember, hands off the safety settings." He grinned as he then returned to packing everything up for cleaning.

Alex laughed. "Don't worry about that. I've most certainly learned my lesson."
