Long Overdue

Mission:
Refits and Reviews
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD 7 1100 hours
Logan, still clad in his flight suit, stepped into Sickbay for his post mission examination. He knew that it was required after every away mission where there was combat engagement and doubly so if a person had sustained a head injury. He crossed the Sickbay foyer to the nursing station to check in, nodding to the nurse on duty. "Lieutenant Logan Hunter here for a post mission medical exam."
Dani offered Logan a smile. "Absolutely. If you'd follow me this way," the petite blonde said, gesturing toward some biobeds off to the side. "I'll get you set up and let the doctor know you're here." She turned and made her way toward one of the vacant beds and gave it a pat so he knew to settle down on it.
Logan followed Dani over to the biobed and hopped up. He took in a deep breath and sighed as he looked about the medical facility with just the slightest trepidation. He wasn't very comfortable in sickbays or infirmaries, it was the main reason he hadn't even made it hear for his inprocessing physical several months ago upon his arrival. He glanced back at Dani with a weak smile on his face. "I'll be right here when you and the doctor get back."
"I'm not going to get the doctor just yet," Dani said, moving toward the biobed monitor to get it activated. "There are a few things I have to do that are standard procedure before he joins us. Relax a bit." She grabbed a few of the sensors and began to attach them to various parts of Logan's body. They were designed to check things like blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen level, as well as other important vital signs.
Logan paled slightly and his breathing seemed to become more labored as the monitors were hooked up to him. He did not like sickbays in general, but for the life of him he could never understand why this was so. He bit his lower lip and did his best to endure what was going on.
It didn't go unnoticed by her trained eye that Logan's vitals jumped, or that he'd gone a bit pale, however, she didn't plan to start panicking just yet. First, Dani planned to get to the root of the issue. "You don't like sickbay, do you? Had a bad experience before?"
Logan closed his eyes tight for a moment and willed himself to calm down. His breathing and heartbeat normalized after a few seconds, but he still remained slightly pale. He opened his eyes to look at Daniella and nodded. "It's a long story."
Dani finished getting the sensors in place, then moved back over to the monitor to check the readings. "Have you spoken to anyone about it?" she asked, reaching for a PADD to input the information.
Logan shrugged after Dani's statement. He appeared thoughtful for a moment and shrugged again. "Not really, I don't know why coming to sickbay bothers me so much. It just...does."
"Well, I can assure you that you aren't the only person it bothers. It doesn't happen often, but there have been times where we've had to give a mild sedative to officers, senior, junior and non-commissioned, just to relax them enough to get their exams completed," the petite woman said, making the final notation in his chart before turning to give him her complete attention. "Do you have anything to report since your last physical? Headaches, changes in sleeping patterns, anything that you might consider to be unusual?"
Logan touched the small bruise on his temple sustained when he'd crash landed in the hanger of the asteroid base. "Some minor pain I suppose from where my head slammed into the side of my vacc suit helmet when I crash landed. The medic there actually did a pretty good job of patching me up though."
Doctor Armitage walked over to greet the head nurse, "You must be Head Nurse Blake. Pleasure to make your acquaintance." Armitage looked over at the Group Commander, "and you must be our chief resident flyboy, welcome to Sickbay."
Logan looked at the physician as he entered the examination area and nodded. "Lieutenant junior grade Hunter sir. I was the pilot rescued from the asteroid base. Regulations call for a mandatory visit to sickbay following an away mission that involves combat...and since my physical is probably long over due...thought I could kill two birds with one stone."
"Can I ask you a few more questions, Lieutenant?" Dani asked. "I need to know the answers for your records."
Logan nodded as he took a deep breath. He was starting to calm somewhat as he turned back Dani. "Of course. Fire away."
"Have you noticed any changes in your sleeping patterns or day to day duties?" the little woman asked.
Logan cocked his head in a manner that was neither a confirmation or denial of the question. "I've been sleeping fine, but my recent promotion to CAG has put a lot on my plate. I'm still trying to get the hang of my new duties I guess."
"A change in duties can cause some changes," she said, adding a few notes to his file. "If you notice anything significant, come back here immediately. For now, I'm going to turn you over to the doctor so your exam can begin."
The Doctor started to use his Bio-Scanner while he approached the CAG, "How does your body hold up when you are whizzing around space? Any discomfort at all?"
Logan gave the doctor's question a moments thought before giving a nonchalant shrug of his shoulders. "Inertial dampeners on the Valkyrie-class fighters are some of the best sir. Pilots actually feel very little in the way of G-force stress common on the older style fighters."
"Which is a good thing," Dani stated as she continued to make notes in the CAGs file. So far, his health seemed to be perfect, but she couldn't make the call to send him on his way until the doctor completed his examination.
"What is in your daily diet? How regularly do you exercise off duty?" Doctor Armitage inquired.
Logan mulled over the question for only a moment. "I usually have a moderate sized breakfast, light to moderate lunch, dinner often depends on whether I am eating alone or with my fiance. As for my exercise regimen it consists of cardio every other day interspersed with strength training and flexibility exercises." He paused to listen intently for any further recommendations J.M. or Daniella might have.
"You are good to go, Lieutenant. You have a clean bill of health. Do you have anything further you want to add, Nurse Blake?"
"Aside from returning in the event you begin to notice anything unusual in what should be normal patterns for you, I don't have anything else to add," the nurse said as she put the last bits of information into Logan's medical record. "That being said, you're free to go, Lieutenant."
Logan hopped of the biobed with a nod to both J.M. and Daniella. The check up hadn't really taken so long, but he was still a bit apprehensive being in sickbay. "Thanks for the clean bill of health sir. You too Nurse Blake." He headed out and felt relief wash over him as he stepped out into the corridor. There was just something about sickbays, infirmaries and planetside hospitals he didn't like and hadn't liked for as long as he could remember.
