From Weird to Worrisome

Posted on Thu Apr 4, 2019 @ 7:51am by Lieutenant JG Logan Hunter

Mission: On Slippery Ground
Location: Maquis Asteroid Base
Timeline: MD 1 || 1645 hours

Logan followed Brian out of the infirmary. The boy from earlier was out in the corridor, though this time he was armed with a phaser.

Amanda stormed after them all, a look of anger on her face. "You can't execute this man without sanction from the Council Brian!"

Brian looked at Amanda with a slight smirk. "He is Starfleet. Starfleet is our enemy."

Logan was only mildly concerned about Brian's threat. He fixed Brian with a gaze. "Look. I am not your enemy. You want me to answer questions, fine. I won't be answering anything until you take this execution nonsense of the agenda."

Amanda turned to Logan before Brian could speak. "You have no reason to worry. He can't execute you without a full vote from the Council and I sit on the Council."

Brian gave Amanda a look as if he were ready to shoot her with the phaser on his hip. "We'll see what the Council has to say. I have called a full assembly."

Logan seemed nonplussed by the whole matter. He already figured if push came to shove, he could disarm either Brian or the young boy following them up.

A minute later they entered a chamber filled with young children. All looked to be no older than Brian and Amanda with most appearing to be in their mid teens. Logan estimated there was two or three dozen present.

Brian walked to a table set up on a low platform and took a seat. Amanda gave Logan a reassuring gaze before taking her own seat at the table. The young guard ushered Logan to a spot just off the platform.

Brian picked up a hammer and banged on the table, subduing the light chatter in the chamber. "I bring this meeting of the Council of Elders and the General Assembly to order. We are here to decide the fate of this Starfleet officer."

A low murmur spread throughout the crowd of children. Some looked at Logan with obvious anomosity, while most just seemed curious. Logan simply maintained a neutral expression as he looked at the crowd.

"As you all know Starfleet is the enemy of the Maquis. Just as much as the Spoonheads and their allies who came here long ago and killed our parents. This officer should be made to answer our questions and then pay for his crimes as an enemy of the people." Brian's speech had an affect on the crowd. Many of the curious faces turned hostile.

Logan shook his head and took a step forward. "I am not your enemy despite what this man says. The survivors of the Maquis were granted amnesty after the Dominion War. Most were able to return to their homes...."

A red-faced Brian stood up slamming the hammer on the table. "Shut up Prisoner. You have no voice here."

Amanda rose from the table and walked over to Logan. "I wish to hear what he has to say. Therefore I grant him my voice."

Brian seemed to grow even angrier for a moment, but he finally nodded.

Amanda placed a hand on Logan's arm and nodded. "Go ahead."

Logan gave Amanda a smile before turning to the crowd to speak. "I am Lieutenant Logan Hunter from the Starship Triumphant and yes I am a Starfleet officer, but I am not your enemy. Help me contact my ship and I promise I will do everything in my power to help each one of you."

Brian rose from his seat at the table. "How do you propose to help us? By carting us off to one of your Federation labor planets, forcing us into slavery."

Logan turned to Brian. "No, but my ship can contact the Federation Council and find out where others of your families are."

There was a murmur from the crowd of children and even a few on the Council of Elders looked interested. Brian glanced about at every one. He was about to speak when a young child burst into the chamber. "Leader Brian. Bayla says there are two ships in sensor range. She believes they are conducting a search of the area."

Brian pointed at Logan. "See his friends are on their way to get him back and put the rest of us in prison. Everyone report to your war station." He looked at the armed guard next to Logan. "Bring him. Maybe we can convince his ships to leave the area if they think we will execute their officer.
