Quiet Contemplation

Posted on Tue Feb 27, 2018 @ 3:53pm by Ensign Gaalen Tholav

Mission: Falling Star
Location: Gaalen's Quarters
Timeline: MD31 || 19:00

Gaalen had recently arrived on the Triumphant and so far he had kept his head down and kept himself to himself. This was usual for the Andorian who generally found it hard to form friendships with others. Socialising was something that didn't come easy to Gaalen - and despite being invited out that evening by his new colleagues the Andorian had opted to retire to his quarters for the evening instead

He had eaten his dinner in the officers' mess before retiring to his quarters. Gaalen had changed into some more casual clothing before preparing to resume work on his model of the Kumari. He placed the partially finished model on a table he had brought in from the lounge area

Gaalen had designed the model so the deck components joined together using miniature fasteners. Having designed each deck to be formed of eight separate sections for easier assembly it had taken Gaalen the best part of six months to accurately machine them. Once everything was laid out in the right order Gaalen donned his magnifying spectacles and removed some fasteners from a small tin

Having already built a tubular skeleton into the design it made assembly of the internal components much easier. Gaalen then dimmed the lights in his quarters and turned on the small torch on his spectacles before resuming construction of his model

"Two...three...four" Gaalen said as he removed a sufficient number of fasteners to join the first section to the skeleton

After clipping the fasteners to the underside of the forward section of Deck 4 Gaalen very carefully moved it into position before using a micro hyperspanner to fasten it into position. Examining his work with a satisfied nod Gaalen then repeated the process another seven times and then placed his micro hyperspanner to one side and opened another small box. This was going to be the more delicate part

"Computer...what time is it?" Gaalen asked.

"The current time is 20:45 hours"

"Should be enough time...I hope" Gaalen muttered to himself.

Gaalen examined the micro LEDs which would provide the lighting for the various portholes. He placed a pair of latex gloves on and carefully began to remove the LEDs and place them into their respective positions one by one. These lights would be controlled by a control panel Gaalen had already made so he could test the internal lighting and other parts such as the warp core (one part of the design he was particularly pleased with) during the construction phase

Around an hour or so later Gaalen examined the container which held the LED lights in nine separate foam layers - one for each deck. With none remaining for the fourth deck Gaalen was satisfied he had completed the fourth deck

"I think I have some time to test everything..." Gaalen said.

He removed his magnifying glasses and reached for the control panel which was built into the model's stand. Selecting Deck 4 on the panel he began to test everything he had installed that evening - double-checking before moving onto the next section. With everything working Gaalen decided to call it a night and after putting his tools away he turned the lights back on and very carefully placed the model back into its crate

"If only I could put some miniature lasers on to represent the particle cannons..." Gaalen thought aloud.

Gaalen had often thought about it - and had made provisions to do so - but never got around to asking for assistance in designing the would-be particle cannons. Perhaps he would go and speak to the Triumphant's Chief Tactical Officer about getting some help with it

For now though it was time for bed and Gaalen retired to his bed - extremely satisfied with that evening's progress
