A Quillian's end...

Mission:
Strange Matter
Location: Unknown
Great Leader Mek'tar of the Quillian Starship Light of Hel'tar smiled as he stepped out into the central control room of the ship, seeing his crew around. His was the first ship to leave their system, with his large cargo vessel containing the parts of the jump gate that the Quillian scientists had invented. It had been a great day for him when he had been chosen to command the legendary expedition, and whilst they were twenty years into their mission, he knew they were nearing the system which they would build the gate in.
As they had travelled, his crew had slept, but they had awoken thirty five cycles earlier, to complete the final part of the great journey. He was proud to be doing something so important for his people, and ready to make history.
"Great Leader, our sensors have detected something they can not classify." One of his officers said.
"Where?" Mek'tar asked, his three antenna eyes turning to face the officer. His tail swished as his curiosity rose.
"Directly ahead. I can get you an image on the screen." The officer replied. Mek'tar looked at the viewing screen, and his eyes all rose as he saw a smaller ship ahead of them. His ship was a massive one, with two thousand scientists, engineers and civilians aboard, all in hypersleep.
"By the Goddess Bright Light, another ship! The old fools of the science bureau were right. There are off-worlders alive. I wonder if they are like us." Mek'tar said, smiling. He stood proudly in front of the screen.
"Send a message of greeting, and say that we are proud to be the first of our kind to meet their species." He said. He waited, and watched to see if anything was happening. After a short time, he frowned. "Any reply?" Mek'tar asked.
"None, Great Leader. It could be that they do not understand us, or they are in need of help." The science officer reported.
"Very well. Extend our boarding struts. Let us greet these aliens, and see if they need help." He ordered.
It hadn't taken long for Mek'tar to stand ready at the docking port, in his full uniform, standing tall to meet the aliens. The Quillian's were all about ceremony, and as they stood by the docking port, Mek'tar smiled, watching the door roll open. "Greetings, alien friends. I am Great Leader Mek'tar, and I..."
That was all he said before everything went dark for Mek'tar, and his life ended. A split second before his death, he thanked the Goddess of the Light that his death would be quick, and prayed that his people would not suffer.
Screams filled the ship as every light went out. One officer, the sub adjunct to the Great Leader, was running to an escape pod. But as the hatch to the pod opened, he felt something grab him, and he was unable to move.
He was turned around, and the last thing he saw was a being like he had never seen before, its mouth wide open, ready to engulf his face. The alien stopped, however, and its mouth became smaller.
"More...." It hissed. "There are more..."
"No...there...there are...none...no others..." He said, hoping they wouldn't find the scientists, and wondering how the creature spoke his language.
"More...we have more!" The creature sounded...excited. Before the sub adjunct could speak, the creature's mouth seemed to grow, and moved to cover his face. The last thing the sub adjunct saw were the very sharp teeth of the creature, knowing he had failed...
