Mission:
Strange Matter
Location: XO's Office
Timeline: MD 28 || 1200 Hours
Maddy moved into her office after going to Medical. Thankfully, she was clear of the virus, but the close call she had was more than enough for her. Now, though, she had time to reflect on everything that happened on the Science vessel, and there were quite a few things that made her very unhappy, but one stood out more than others did, and that was where she planned to start.
Moving behind her desk, the Commander tapped her combadge. =^=Commander Weisz to Lieutenant Mirok... report to my office immediately.=^= she ordered before ending the link between the two. Now all she needed to do was wait, and when she was done with this, everyone else would be talked to as a group.
Mirok had been lounging in his quarters, preparing some minor things for his shift when the summons came through on the comm. He immediately headed out to the XO's ready room.
As he arrived, he jabbed the chime, and stood at attention waiting for the command to come.
"Come!" the redhead ordered. There was no need to wonder who was standing outside her office. She already knew. Now, Maddy just needed to wait for her guest to enter.
Mirok stepped into the room, coming to attention. "Lieutenant Mirok reporting as ordered."
"Would you mind explaining to me why you failed to follow a direct order, Lieutenant?" Maddy demanded, placing her hands flat against the holographic interface that made up the top of her desk as she leaned forward. "I even stated I doubted there would be anyone left alive, but instead of doing what you were told, you insisted on fooling with a PADD I can only assume was broken since you didn't provide me with anything useful from it."
"Its not everyday you get to explore a science vessel from your people. You were right on the PADD being broken, however I was using it mostly as a memory of home, since it has been years since I've seen extensive passages written in Romulan." Mirok said, remaining at attention as he tried to defend his actions.
"Memories of home?" the Commander asked, a brow arching. "I can assure you that everyone on board this ship would love the opportunity to stroll down memory lane, but there's a time and place for such things, and that time is not when we're standing in the middle of a floating graveyard." Maddy was furious. There were so many things that were angering her, and not all of those things were his fault. All in due time... all in due time.
"A graveyard is how some view it. Others, such as myself, view it as a relic of a lost time. A time when it was still a great empire." It was important that Mirok hadn't included himself in with the rest of the empire like he normally would.
"You allowed your personal life... personal feelings... to get in the way of your orders, Lieutenant," Maddy snapped, trying to keep from hitting the desktop. She didn't want to explain that to Operations. "Had they not all been dead, your... lack... in judgement could have cost any number of our crew their lives. What's to say you won't make such a huge mistake again in the future?"
"Seeing that I have been virtually extracized from the empire is what is to say I won't. When that boarding party didn't even bat an eye when I was there showed me that it's a lots cause trying to stay connected, so I'm done with them."
Maddy studied the man across from her. "I don't imagine they'd be batting an eye at anyone considering they were almost immediately effected by whatever that was that killed so many individuals," she pointed out. "That being said, your lack of following an order cannot, and will not, go unpunished. I'm aware of what Commodore Aravan has you doing, so I'm going to add to it."
Mirok kept his comments to himself, having learned from his meeting with the Commodore that the translator does know Romulan.
"You look like you have something to say," the Commander commented. "Go ahead."
"Permission to speak freely, commander?"
"Granted," she said simply, but by granting those who wished to speak freely the chance to, meant that chances were, she'd be responding the same way.
"If the last you had known your home world had been destroyed, and you've been away for decades, wouldn't you want to see what has been going on and holding out hope that you might be able to see some of your brethren?"
"Absolutely," Maddy confirmed immediately. "But there is a time and a place for that. The situation we were in on the infected vessel was most definitely not that place." She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, cursing the fact that he'd played on her sympathies. "Look... I'm sure you have a lot of questions and are seeking answers... I will help you with that if you'd like. As far as your punishment goes, I'm going to go easy on you. I want you to run an extra patrol at the end of your shift for the next two weeks."
Mirok held back a smirk--he'd tried a tactic he wasn't sure woulda worked--and instead nodded. "Yes ma'am. Understood."
"Be warned, though," the redhead cautioned. "Should anything like this happen in the future, I won't be so lenient again. So, Lieutenant, let's try not to make this a habit."
"Yes ma'am."
"Patrols start today. Other than that, you're dismissed."
