Getting To Know You

Posted on Fri Jul 14, 2017 @ 9:25pm by Captain Madelina Weisz & Lieutenant JG Mirok

Mission: Strange Matter
Location: Utopia Planetia
Timeline: MD 25 || 0800 Hours

Mirok had never been a fan of the noise or lifestyle of a shipyard. Even back before Hobus, he was always avoiding them whenever he could. He wasn't here on assignment this time, however, he was here for the beauty of a ship that just arrived. USS Triumphant, an amazing ship with an amazing crew--one that he was a part of.

The only throng that worries him was the fact that the CO was a Commodore, which meant that nothing in his file was safe from him. He sighed and stepped aboard and made his way to the XO's office, dodging engineers and others making rwpiatrs.

He jabbed the chime, absentminfedly tugging on the hem of his uniform.

Maddy looked at the stack of PADDs in front of her and frowned. Two hundred and one people died when the Thasian invaded their ship, and the redhead woman was lucky she wasn't one of them. She'd come close... very close... but thankfully, she made a full recovery. Now she'd need to spend the next couple of hours familiarising herself with the new crew that was joining their crew.

The XO was about to grab one of the PADDs in front of her when the chime alerted her their was someone waiting on the other side of her door to see her. There was still a little time before the ship was underway once again, and there was no doubt the owners of the files she would be looking at would make their introductions soon enough, but it was nice to know something about them in advance. It could wait for a bit. "Come!" she called out.

Mirok stepped into the room, coming to attention, "Lieutenant Mirok, new assistant security chief reporting aboard."

"At ease, Lieutenant," Maddy said, gesturing to one of the two chairs on the other side of her desk. "Have a seat. Can I get you anything before we get started?"

Mirok took the offered seat, "Romulan Ale if that thingll make it."

Romulan Ale? At least there's no alcohol in it, she thought as she moved over to the replicator to get that for him and a cup of tea for herself. With those in hand, Maddy returned to her desk and set them both down. "I haven't been in my office long, nor have I had the chance to look over any personnel files yet, so with that being said, why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself?"

"Unless you find Romulans interesting there isn't much to tell. Except I'm a hybrid who doesn't remember ever seeing Vulcan."

Maddy took a sip of her tea before she reached for a PADD and accessed his personnel file. She scanned it for anything that might stand out. "It says here that you were nearly expelled from the academy on more than one occasion for fighting... do the Captain and I have anything to worry about regarding the safety of the rest of the crew?"

"No ma'am. That was years ago and I haven't had an altercation in years." He with held the fact that he had verbal altercations since then, but none physical.

"How do you handle authority?" the XO asked, leaning back in her chair to study the man sitting across from her. "As well as taking orders."

"Respect me, I respect you. I feel that respect is earned. Until I deem someone otherwise, I respect them, if they prove themselves to be not worthy of it, things can get cold rather fast. As for orders, if they don't make undue sacrifices, I'll follow them."

"I like that attitude," Maddy said, reaching for her tea cup again. In fact, that sounded a lot like her. "I'm sure you'll hear your share of rumors about me the longer you serve aboard our wonderful ship. I know most of the crew refers to me as the Red Queen or the Ice Queen. That's simply because the majority of them have crossed a line. Not necessarily with me, but with their duties or something else along those lines. I am known to be a hard ass, and I fully expect orders to be carried out when they're given."

"As I said, don't tell me to throw the ship at the enemy and I'll follow orders, but I'm very much opposed to making undue sacrifices for no reason."

The redhead woman nodded her head. "Understandable. I don't like giving orders requiring sacrifices for no reason," she began. "You see, Lieutenant, I won't ask anything of you... or anyone else on this crew... that I wouldn't be willing take on myself."

"Understood. Tell me about you."

"Ah, but see... we're not here to talk about me... at least not yet. Why don't you tell me something about you that I won't find in your personnel file?" Maddy asked, taking a sip of her tea.

"I'm not willing to open up that much yet. If I don't make it, I don't want to open up and let you guys get under my skin."

The XO couldn't help but arch an eyebrow at his words. "I'm not going to force you into answering that question, but I do want an answer to my next one. Do you not think you will make it here?"

"Its not that I think I'm not going to make it. Its that my people tend to not be very successful in Starfleet, so I'm preparing for what might come." Mirok had rehearsed this question plenty of times before.

"I'm going to cut to the chase, Lieutenant," Maddy said, turning her attention on the man sitting before her. "If you think like that... you'll join the list of your people that didn't make it. This positively when it comes to your career, and positive things will happen for you. Don't dwell on what others before you couldn't accomplish. After all... you are your own person... just as they were. Your future... your destiny... it all lies within your own hands." She had no idea if he'd appreciate that bit of advice, but there was nothing that she'd just said that was a lie. It was all complete truth. Even her tone was encouraging... and maybe even a bit friendly. If the crew could see her, more than a third of them would swear she was the doppelganger from their last encounter before shore leave.

"Yes ma'am." Mirok said, keeping it short so as to not show his temper that was brewing.

Maddy finished off her tea and moved to replicate another cup after recycling the first. "Do you have any questions for me? About the ship, your department, anything?"

"How many personnel do we have?" Mirok asked.

"The ship as a whole has three thousand personnel with an emergency capacity of ten thousand," the XO replied. "Security and Tactical has the largest compliment with six hundred officers and enlisted. You're definitely going to have your work cut out for you as far as schedules go. Our previous Assistant Chief of Security/Tactical may be able to help you out should you need it. She's been moved to the role of Mission Advisor. Trust me when I say I have faith in your ability to handle things, but if you'd rather not bother Lieutenant Lischka, my door is always open."

"I'm confident in my ability to handle any situation that may be thrown my way."

"And I'm confident in your abilities, too," Maddy said. Until he gave her reason not to be, but so far most of the crew hadn't done anything to make her anything but confident. "If you don't have anymore questions, I'll let you get settled in. You may want to check in with Lieutenants Mallory and Cusack... our Chiefs of Security and Tactical respectively. You're dismissed, and welcome aboard."

Maddy watched as Mirok vacated her office. Given his record, despite it having been a while back, she was going to be keeping an eye on him. Maybe nothing would happen, but then, there were some hotheaded people on board the ship he could clash with. Time would tell, but for now, she had personnel files to go through.
