| Personal History | Akash Misra was born on the USS Windsor in 2259 to Mohinder and LTJG (at the time) Neela Misra. He grew up the middle child of three boys on different starships and stations on which his mother served. Growing up, he always tried to excel in his school subjects, trying to outdo his brothers. He gained an affinity for studying astronomy and this in turn, led him to want to join Starfleet. He was accepted to Starfleet academy in 2378 at the age of 19, having taken a gap year to travel all over Earth. During this time, he met a girl his age in India named Padma and they fell in love. She joined Starfleet Medical and eventually graduated as a nurse. During his Academy days, Akash excelled in Astronomy and Flight courses and was on the Academy fencing team. When he graduated from Starfleet Academy with a degree in Advanced Flight and Astronomy, he decided that he would immediately marry Padma. They were married in 2382, both at the tender age of 23. They requested to serve their commissions on the same ship and were both assigned to the USS Ithaca, an Intrepid-class starship studying stellar phenomena near Starbase 29. A few years later in 2385, they volunteered for a deep space survey mission that would send the two of them to the Gamma Quadrant. They received a commission aboard the Wallace-class USS Fulton with a small crew consisting of three other researchers. During this trip, a mechanical problem forced them to crash-land on a Class M planet with a pre-warp civilization. This civilization was suffering from an epidemic that caused lesions and violent seizures in ninety-five percent of the population. Padma wished to treat the virus and volunteered to do so while Akash and the other crew got the Fulton space-worthy again. Unfortunately, she was caught in the crossfire of a civil war on the planet and killed in action in 2386. Akash was devastated, taking a year-long leave of absence. He returned in 2387, serving aboard the Ronin-class USS Edinburgh as a CONN officer, but he always carried with him the memories of Padma. During a run into the Badlands in 2391, he was field-promoted to Chief CONN after the previous officer was killed in action. During this operation, he actually took temporary command of the Edinburgh, as her captain and first officer were taken captive by operatives of the True Way. For his actions, he was awarded a commendation for bravery. He served his post on the Edinburgh until 2392, when he transferred to the USS Triumphant. |
